If the patient has insurance the insurance company can make the payment in the behalf of the patient usually after a few days. It is allowable only with a guarantee letter indicating the amount, terms and other pertinent information. This gives a plausible assurance to the air ambulance provider. .

After payment is set, then that’s the only time a schedule can be given since it’s a first-come first-serve basis. Other uncontrolled factors like weather, fuel availability and airport slotting may affect the availability and dispatch time.

The attending physician makes the call to the preferred hospital of destination to endorse the patient.. This is because most hospitals prefer they know a patient is arriving specially if its via air ambulance.

Usually the air ambulance meets the patient at the airport or helipad, but in some cases it can be a bed-to-bed transfer. This means the patient is subject for transfer from the current hospital or clinic by the air ambulance provider to the final destination. However, this adds time for the air ambulance provider because they have to look for a third party provider that can transfer the patient. Not all clinics or hospitals have their own ground ambulance. In some cases it requires a speedboat’s involvement if the patient’s location is from another island.
