When emergency strikes, depending on the gravity of the situation, communication becomes a vital piece of survival. It’s the fine line between being saved or sadly, perishing. That’s why the need to communicate at all costs can’t be stressed well enough.
As always, maintaining a clear state of mind during an emergency is still the number one thing everyone should do. The next thing is to communicate.
Here are ways to communicate in the event of an emergency. Most of these require preparation early on, so take note of these tips.
Find out the kind of landline service that you use.
Mind you that newer telephone services run on electricity. Once power source has been cut out, you won’t be able to communicate through these. If you’re using the older, traditional phones, on the other hand, you may be able to utilize these phones even if the power is out. However, take note that this is only for traditional phones that have cords. Cordless phones may still require electricity to work. That’s why it is highly advised to know what kind of telephone service you are using.
Keep your mobile phones charged.
Wherever you go, always bring a charger or a power bank to prevent your phone from dying. If you can, keep an emergency phone in your car. Make sure it is within your access so that you can reach for it easily when the need arises.
Invest on broadcasters.
If you can afford it, you may want to buy broadcasters or portable digital televisions. These gadgets are an ideal source of news in case of emergencies. You may want to buy one that is battery-operated.
Know who to call.
Keep a set of numbers that you can call when a -disaster occurs. Include AirGurus on your list of emergency contact. AirGurus is Philippines’ number one air ambulance provider and helicopter. We operate 24/7 to your avail.
Allow a 10-second interval between calls.
Calling a certain number for multiple succeeding times can cause increased network congestion. If your first attempt at a call wasn’t successful, call again after 10 seconds or better yet, a full minute.
When emergencies occur, always find a way to communicate. Many of us have heard the term air ambulance probably once or twice in our lifetime. But, have we really thought what it’s all about? What does it do? How does it work? Continue reading as we discuss some of the things to understand the concept of air ambulance.
A brief background
Air ambulance is an air medical service that uses air transportation to move patients to healthcare facilities from the accident zones. In addition, an air ambulance provides extensive emergency care to all types of patients. An air ambulance is equipped with medical tools and machines.
Various types
The military term for the two types of air ambulance are MEDEVAC or medical evacuation and CASEVAC or casualty evacuation.
MEDEVAC is a type of rescue that evacuates and treats casualties in the air. Meanwhile, a CASEVAC is the one that evacuates and transports casualties from an accident zone to a medical facility in a helicopter or airplane. Hence, both services ensure that the casualties receive a proper treatment outright.
Where to get one?
On the other hand, Airgurus is the only full-time air ambulance company in the Philippines that owns and operates its own aircraft. This medical airlift service offers intensive healthcare assistance ranging from Air Ambulance (MEDEVAC), Alarm Center, and Medical Equipment. Moreover, you can trust Airgurus to provide the fastest and safest mode of patient transport even in a long distance. We operate within the guidelines of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP)
Unfortunate incidents such as internal bleeding, spinal or neck injury, cerebrovascular attack (CVA) or heart attack, extreme animal bite, or any other critical health situations should have an immediate action. Good thing, air ambulances are available 24/7 to provide contingencies in times of sudden adversities.

Airgurus deploys choppers to Tacloban. The devastation left after Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) is still staggering. Many of the affected areas have still not yet started working at that time. The government was on rebuilding their communities as there is still a need to fill the most basic commodities. Basic needs such as electricity, shelter, clean water, medicine, basic goods, etc.
Airgurus went out of their way to helping in any way they can. As the country’s trusted leader in medical air transportation Airgurus does their part in giving aid by deploying choppers for rescue operations.
These assist the multi-national force sending a steady stream of relief supplies to devastated areas in and around the city of Tacloban. Airgurus also provides sling load and lifting operations to Tacloban since much of the infrastructure is torn apart. Major roads are no longer accessible making air transport, in some cases, the only possible way to reach the most devastated areas. Daily loading and flight operations will continue the steady stream of relief supplies to the displaced locals into the months ahead. Todate, more than 630,000 pounds of relief aid has been distributed.
i
It was time to rebuild Tacloban again. The communities will get to begin rebuilding their lives and reclaiming their lost livelihood. Airgurus hopes to inspire everyone that can lend a hand to the Filipinos from these communities to do so.
Time plays an important factor for Airgurus’ Medical Evacuation Crew so they provide rapid, professional care of transferring these patients. For air ambulance services in Tacloban or any part of the Philippines call Airgurus. Hotline is +63 917 8857911 and they have Viber, WhatsApp and Telegram.
Necessity is the mother of invention. And this how Airgurus, a medevac company in the Philippines was formed. This is the case for Captain Harry Harvey Lero, the founder and CEO of Airgurus which was and still is the only professional medevac company in the Philippines.
Incidentally, the first medevac case was through the wife of a friend. She called in emergency for a foreigner friend of hers that got into an accident on the distant shores of Boracay. At the time, Capt. Harry had no helicopter of his own so it was a risk for him to take on the quest. However, he got on his feet and rented a helicopter. He then picked up the patient and his wife and flew them to Makati Medical Hospital.
This all happened in a span of four hours. For those who are not familiar with what it takes to execute a medical evacuation, his feat is impressive as first missions go.
Over the years, Capt. Harry has flown at night, 200 miles out at sea, and during bad weather. In one case, the U.S government had him on stand by in case of a rescue mission operation. The location was given to him and was advised the pick up point near terrorists camp in the dangerous areas of Mindanao. It was a satellite image hence; locating the area proved its own challenge. Over the years his skills and hard work has helped him make his own luck.
He comes from a family where flying is in the blood, Harry Harvey Lero is a third generation pilot. Capt. Harry’s grandfather was the kind of man who was an air force pilot and a WW2 guerrilla. Harry reminisces the weekends with his grandfather when he got to fly remote controlled helicopters. He learned precision and control before he got in a cockpit.
He didn’t immediately become a pilot however, in 2001 Captain Lero was in Chicago taking a certified nurse assistant course. Harry spent a year gathering up experience to run a nurse staffing agency. His company would send nurses and caregivers to nursing homes for the elderly. Capt. Lero then decides to study to be a nurse to get a medical background. This is despite the fact that he says he “hates the sight of blood”. He had come to a reasonable amount of success with his agency and was financially stable. He sold his shares of the company and in 2005, he moved back to the Philippines.
After the medevac rescue in 2007, Capt. Harry was discussing the mission rescue with his friend in the hangar at Pasay. He recalls the exact moment they coined the term Airgurus medevac company Philippines came together.
“My friend owns a scuba company, Divegurus. The name has a ring on it so I said why not Airgurus.” After that he took his idea and went to different companies including EA Philippines to see how he could get started. The companies were able to offer him a guarantee on payment, fronting the money themselves and then collecting later on their own. Over the years the companies closed due to mismanagement. After he learned how to avoid those mistakes he decided he could open a company himself. This is how Airgurus “Medevac company Philippines” came to be and this was what it took for a small startup to become the country’s trusted leader in medical evacuation.
They say necessity is the mother of invention, but what they don’t say is that it takes a lot of hard work, skill, and courage to pinpoint what is truly necessary to make that invention truly work.
