Having compromised immune systems when you travel? A compromised immune systeam (immunosuppressed) mean that your body cannot produce the same level of immunity to invading organisms.
Public transportation is the easiest ways to spread communicable diseases from patients with compromised immune systems. Are you suffering from these communicable diseases like Tuberculosis, Measles, Influenza, Pneumonia and many more? Some people seem to survive cold and flu season with nary a sniffle. And yet plenty others seem to catch cold after cold; sidelined with a perpetually stuffed-up nose and hacking cough that lasts all winter. Due to this, flying with these diseases is a restriction for commercial air travel.
Flying with communicable diseases puts people at risk of catching the virus and usually becomes ill. Also, commercial airlines are amazing environments for airborne illnesses to spread. Furthermore, air is in isolation and it re-circulates in the cabin all the time. This is why we take precautionary measures to ensure that the medical flight crew is in protection from illness whenever we transport patients with a communicable disease.
Traffic and outdated transportation vehicles are some of the reasons why off-the-ground medical operations are much more efficient. Consequently, you have to plan ahead. Most of all, you must choose the best air ambulance service when these times occur.
Here are the key factors that you need to consider when choosing an air ambulance service:
Credibility of the Air Ambulance Service
You have to remember that not all air ambulance services are the same. Other service providers do not have the proper certifications (CAAP, CAB) to perform medical and off the ground operations. Also, it is ideal that you take these in mind before choosing your air ambulance service.
Furthermore, safety is an important factor in choosing an air ambulance service. You must take in mind the past operations of the service provider that you choose. Do a background check if their operations were successful.
State-of-the-Art Equipment
Air ambulance services should have the right medical and air transport equipment. Therefore, some of the important medical instruments that you need for an air ambulance provider are the following:
Parapac 310+
Defibrillator
Digital Ventilator
Medical emergencies can happen on any given day. It is highly suggested that you check your air ambulance provider if they have alert tools and warning systems. Most of all, these are the relevant tools when sudden emergencies happen.
Trained Personnel
Lastly, the personnel is the most important factor for every air ambulance services. Their flight crew and staff should have training and should be adept at flight devices. Make sure that their ground support has an experience and knowledge about medical emergencies. They will be the ones who will provide aid to those patients that need to be transported to hospitals that do not have landing zones.

Yet, true heroes are found in hospitals, on the road, or in the sky during the brink of natural disasters. Capes do not make them fly nor define them but a touch of a badge, a uniform, and an air transport do. They are the search and rescue heroes that you need, may it be on the ground or off the ground.

EMS and air ambulance has been around since late 1800s. It is defined as the transportation of an injured person through an aircraft. It originated during military operations back then.
Air ambulance was firstly recorded as a term by Jules Verne’s Robur le Conquérant in 1866. It describes the rescue of shipwrecked sailors by an airship (balloon) named the Albatross. Meanwhile, the first documented use of an air ambulance is during the Siege of Paris in 1870. Air balloons were used to rescue more than 160 soldiers from the dangers of the war in the city.
Air ambulance over the years
The first air ambulance flight was made during the Great War in the early 1900s. This took place when a Serbian officer was flown from the battlefield to a hospital. The trip was made through a French Air Service plane.
Moreover, the air medical ambulance can reduce the war mortality rate. This is according to the records of French authorities. They concluded that the mortality rate among war casualties can be reduced from 60% to less than 10%. This can be done if the casualties will be evacuated by air within 6 hours of injury.
Air ambulance during the World War
Moving forward, the first recorded British ambulance flight took place in 1917. The flight took place in Turkey. It is when a Camel Corps soldier was shot in the ankle. Afterwards, he was flown to the hospital in Havilland, DHH within 45 minutes.
Also, another air ambulance case was recorded in Britain during the 1930s. Some sick passengers in Britain were ferried by air from Scotland’s Western Isles to the mainland.
Later on, air ambulances were tested by various military organizations in the midst of First World War. However, it has received many various opinions. This is due to its limited capabilities that time. Nevertheless, the exploration of the idea pushed through. Finally, an organized military air ambulance service operated in 1936. It was able to evacuate wounded Spanish Civil War army for medical treatment in Nazi Germany.
Medical Evacuation over the years
The first documented medevac operations took place during the World War II.
In 1944, a US Army helicopter were forced down in a jungle in Mawlu, Burma. It carries three wounded British soldiers. The US Army Sikorsky YR-4B Helicopter has made four trips from April 25-26, 1944. This is despite of the fact that it can only carry one passenger at a time.
The first air ambulance service provider in America was established after the World War II. The first civilian air ambulance in Canada was made by the Saskatchewan government. On the other hand, the first air ambulance service in USA was the Schaefer Air Service by J. Walter Schaefer.

How do you create an emergency preparedness and response in a workplace? Half the time, the difference between living and dying lies on just how fast the response to the emergency happens. It’s the ugly truth. When people realize that they could’ve saved a life had they known what to do or acted upon it immediately, the thought is almost depressing. However, no one could be and should be blamed for it.
Emergencies happen in the least expected time. That’s why, there is a need to create emergency preparedness plan for whatever the situation is, just like in any workplace.
Each organization must have a plan for when emergencies do happen.
Here are some guidelines for creating an emergency preparedness and response plan in the workplace.
List down possible workplace hazards.
Have a professional hazards inspector check the building. This is to make sure that every nook and cranny have been carefully observed. It may be a daunting task but it is a must to come up with a thorough analysis and be able to provide of what may possibly cause an emergency.
Consider the wirings.
Wiring is a huge component of most companies these days. Make sure that your wiring system is still very much intact and that some of the wires haven’t been preyed upon by rats. Also, some wiring materials are made of plastic that is considered a fire hazard.
Check hallways, stairs, and other rooms
Do a thorough checking of the common areas of the building that hasn’t been given proper attention. This includes hallways, stairs, and supply rooms. See if the hallways and stairs are well-lighted, or if the supplies room is arranged. This is to make sure that none of the potentially harmful chemicals there will cause danger to anyone.
Prepare a backup power source.
In case of blackouts, there should be an alternate power source so that operations could still push through, at least until the electricity comes back.
Devise an evacuation plan.
A general rule for evacuating: there should be at least two escape routes for every room in the building. That may seem too much for some. But this is a guideline for evacuation in case of emergencies. Also, make sure that the organization practices evacuation drills so that the people know what to do in the event of the exact emergency.
It should also be noted that an organization should have emergency contact numbers of hospitals and ambulance. Keep Airgurus at the top of your emergency list. Visit our website to know more about our services.
